Application for the Volunteer Research Assistantships


Research sessions run in one-week sessions starting on Sunday and ending on Saturday. Volunteers are welcome to participate in multiple sessions if they wish to gain a variety of skills and experiences.


Session 1: March 12th – 18th

Session 2: March 19th – 25th


The cost for the Volunteer Research Assistantship in Costa Rica is $250 per week and includes transportation from Monteverde to the Aula Global Biological reserve, all food and lodging within the reserve, all technical equipment, animal tracking and other related workshops.

As an additional cost there is a conservation fee of $25/week. We ask you to bring this amount with you in US dollars and we will collect it when entering the reserve.  You can read more about the conservation fee here.

When and Where We Will Meet

We will be picking you up in Monteverde/Santa Elena in the parking lot of Morphos restaurant at 12:30 PM on the day your session begins (March 12th and 19th).  Please be sure to contact us in advance of your expected arrival day and time into Monteverde/Santa Elena.

On The Bus

The Monteverde/Santa Elena bus takes about 4.5 hours from San Jose. There is a rest stop about half way for 15 minutes. Don’t wander off as the driver will leave you there. You will be taking the Monteverde /Santa Elena bus from San Jose (6:30 am or 2:30 pm) all the way till the end where it stops high in the mountains in the town of Monteverde/Santa Elena. This is the last stop on the bus and it should arrive around 11:30am or 7:00pm, respectively.

Departing the Aula Global Biological Reserve and Monteverde/Santa Elena

On the last day of the program we will depart the reserve by mid morning and drive back to Monteverde.  This will be the ending point of your program.  Buses run from Monteverde to San Jose twice daily, departing at 6:30am or 2:30pm.  Volunteers will be able to catch the 2:30pm bus on the last day of the program, if they wish.  If you request it, the bus driver will be able to drop you off at the airport in Alajuela.  You will arrive at the airport around 7:00pm.

3) Please submit your $250/session non-refundable payment online by credit card through PayPal or by check.  Full details on how to make a payment as well as the payment schedule are listed below. If we cannot place you on a trip, you will receive a refund of your deposit.

4) Upon receipt of all your completed forms and your payment, your trip placement is fully secured. Please be sure to take note of any due dates for payments. Thank you and we look forward to seeing you soon!

Payment Schedule

$250/session for Spring 2017 Volunteer Research Assistantship in Costa Rica Sessions Due March 1st 2017. 

Payments can be received by check made payable to “Raven Adventures” and sent to Raven Adventures, 360 Patten Hill, Shelburne Falls, MA 01370 or by credit card through PayPal. $250 payment is non-refundable.

Paying through PayPal:

We strive to make enrollments as economically friendly as possible.  For your convenience, we now offer the option of paying for your program with a major credit card through PayPal.  Please be advised we are charged a percentage fee for use of the PayPal service and must recover these additional costs to keep your trip within the pre-determined budget. Therefore, the prices for those paying through PayPal are as follows;

A $500 two-week payment must be submitted to PayPal as $520
